For 移民 and Members of Vulnerable and Directly Impacted Communities

而: As a safe space at 密歇根州立大学丹佛, we, The Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy, must make clear that we stand against all forms of discrimination and maintain an environment where our students can learn free from harassment, 威胁, 和暴力. Declaring The Gender Institute for Teaching and Advocacy (GITA) a sanctuary space will magnify our existing commitment to a vibrant, 多元化的, 包容的空间, which is the heart of our mission at GITA and crucial of the mission and goals of 密歇根州立大学丹佛.

而: The recent shifts in the political landscape have produced a general climate of fear among marginalized communities who have heightened concerns about harassment, 身体虐待, 性侵犯, 种族歧视, 警察暴力, 驱逐出境, mandatory registration and other forms of violence. 移民, 尤其是无证移民, and Muslims have been most directly targeted, 尽管有色人种, 女性, 变性人, LGBTQ社区的成员, 难民, 犹太人, disabled people and others are also affected by recent statements and actions.

而: 密歇根州立大学丹佛 has the largest population of students of color of all four-year institutions in the state, and as such provides educational resources and resources to potentially impacted marginalized populations.

而: Our students are expressing heightened fear and worry for themselves, 还有他们的朋友, 家庭, 和社区. That we are entering a period of change and uncertainty, in which the specific details of the impacts to our communities is not yet clear, only adds to the anxiety that our students are experiencing.

兹决定: GITA不会, for the purposes of immigration enforcement, 配合逮捕, 面试, search and/or surveillance of any member of the 密歇根州立大学丹佛 community, 如果我要求的话, GITA will explore all legal avenues to protect the safety of its students instead of immediately complying. GITA不会 allow immigration officials in, or share information about any member of the 密歇根州立大学丹佛 community without their permission, especially regarding immigration status to the fullest extent of the law; and if required by a court order or signed subpoena to do so, GITA will again explore any and all legal avenues to protect the safety of its students instead of immediately complying.

兹决定: GITA will support undocumented students in their pursuit of their education. This commitment includes continued support in locating additional forms of financial resources for educational expenses.

兹决定: GITA will stand against all forms of discrimination. We commit to protecting the rights of all students, 工作人员, and 教师 without regard to his/her/they sex, 性别, 性别 identity and expressions, sexual orientation or preference, 比赛, color, 种族, 宗教, 祖先, 国家的起源, 公民身份, 年龄, 能力, 资深地位, 以及合伙人身份.  We also stand against all forms of sexual harassment, 性别 harassment and sexual violence, as well as all forms of sex and 性别 discrimination.

兹决定: The Faculty and Staff of GITA supports designating GITA a “Sanctuary Space.” The 教师 and 工作人员 of GITA supports asking 密歇根州立大学丹佛’s administration to agree to exercise available power to implement this Resolution in order to protect our students, 工作人员, 教师, and others on campus from protected surveillance, 恐吓, 调查, 驱逐出境 or other status-based attacks or discrimination while on campus.
